The Laughing Song -William Blake

The Laughing Song

Laughing song is a poem rejoicing nature’s grace. The radiance, splendor and beauty are sometimes ineffable and of all loves the poet does not have more words rather than emotion to express a modicum of the nature’s bounty.

The central idea of the poem is the senile winter ends and the spring occupies its place with all out fulfillments.

1.  When the green woods laugh with the voice of joy,
And the dimpling stream runs laughing by;
When the air does laugh with our merry wit,
And the green hill laughs with the noise of it;

E  Explanation: During the time of spring the green trees are showing amusement and fun with the sound full of cheers and also the stream covered with nipples are flowing near producing noise of laughter. During the time of the spring air is burshing with loud laughter as it blows with our cheerful humour and the hill covered with green plant laughs with the breezy noise.

2.  when the meadows laugh with lively green,
And the grasshopper laughs in the merry scene,
When Mary and Susan and Emily
With their sweet round mouths sing "Ha, ha he!"

Explanation: When the green woods laugh with the voice of joy and the dimpling stream runs laughing by; when the air laughs with our merry wit and the green hill laughs with the noise of it.

Whilst the green grass field looks cheerful with the vivacious greenness effulging around. This cheerful sight instigates the grasshopper chirping with mirth. The children Mary, Susan and Emily in a collective voice shout singing with their plump and curved mouths to greet the nature.

3.      When the painted birds laugh in the shade,
Where our table with cherries and nuts is spread:
Come live, and be merry, and join with me,
To sing the sweet chorus of "Ha, ha, he!"

Explanation: When the painted birds laugh in the shade where our table is spread with cherries and nuts on it, come lively, be merry and join with me to sing the sweet chorus of’ Ha, Ha, Ha’.

Whilst the birds of different colours chant beautiful notes with cheers hiding in the bough of the trees, under their shade we unfold and place our table on which the cherries and nuts are covered. You all come with full of life and become mirthful and accompany me to rejoice singing the pleasant song collectively aloud.
